'08 Stella SW vs Sailfish

I got a chance to fish the new '08 Stella SW's this past monday, we were in Key West on a HOT sailfish bite, I landed two, we dropped one more and saw almost a dozen.

The weather was terrible, 20 knot winds, and torrential rain, but we we pulled through with the final tally being 2 sailfish released, one dropped, as well as 2 bonito. They were all caught on drifted thread herring on Stella 8000 and 50lb braid.

I was fishing the "field test" version of the Japanese SW Stella 8000, as well as the 6000SW, matched with a Trevala F jigging rod. I was impressed with the amount of backbone the new "f" series has compared to the original "wet noodle" action of the standard Trevala rods.

I didn't get a chance to jig for AJ;'s that day, as there was a 3 knot current, and the weather was way too bad.

Those shots are pretty dang good! Especially considering the lighting was not favorable.

I was really impressed with the reels, we only got to use the 8000 and 6000, so i can't comment on the 18K, but the drags are great, one of the two bonito we caught took about 150 yards of line, and there was no stuttering whatsoever. with the sailfish as well, they held up great, and i was really impressed with the line pickup, in terms of the amount retrieved per crank.

If i had the money, i could say right now I would order a 10000 and an 180000 immediately. these are going to be great reels for the tuna casting scene, the new spool lip actually does help them cast, the line pays off a lot easier, and they have a nice fast gear ratio.
