Things dont always go as planned!!!

Was a tough day to start as the water temps have risen over 12 degrees in the last week due to the warm evenings. I fished my usually spots today for about three hours with nothing but a gar and it was a day that I had to produce as I had two rookies on the boat that I owed a favor. After talking to Don and finding out he was having a tough time too, I decided to try something different and hit up one of my summer time holes. Upon arrival, I didnt mark anything but decided to troll for a minute as I graphed. One minute later, all four rods that are out get slammed! We boat all four fish and decide to troll through the school one more time as they had moved. Once again, four fish on after just a minute or two. This time I shut off the motor and from that point on, we slaughtered the reds. The bite was sporadic for a minute but then I got on the reds thick. The lure of choice today was the Super Trap and Spro 2 and 3 oz jigs with LONG trailers. Water temperature also made a world of difference today. What a difference a week can make.
What started out as a VERY slow day turned out to be a great day. Everyone caught plenty of fish and had a good time. The total for the day was around 30 reds(tough to keep track when everyone is catching as soon as the lure hits the water and throwing them back to catch another) , 1 LMB, 1 gar. I have caught a gar a trip over the four trips now and all are coming on artificial. Heck of a day and good talking to ya don. Good to see someone else on the lake catch a few. I talked to quite a few guys at the ramp and they had the goose egg.

Three man limit. I didnt keep any but had fun cleaning them... lol

The bigger ones in the pic are all between 10.7 lbs and 11.4
All the smaller ones are just a few pounds.

One of those 11.4s woulda won the kayak division at the shimano tourney.

wish I coulda found one of them last year

Excellent report and glad you were able to put your buddies on some great fish!
Is there much difference between fresh and saltwater reds?

Looks like you're on to something!

Freshwater and saltwater reds are very similar but the saltwater reds tend to get bigger(I catch saltwater reds upwards of 44 inches regularly and seems that most of the large freshies are around 40-42 inches with the occasional 44-46 inch red) Both fish like large baits and are very aggressive. I am guiding on the lake now and the fishing has changed quite a bit over the past few weeks. Water temps have risen quite a bit and fish are on the move.

OSO, the 10s and 11 were a little over the 28 inch mark I believe, If not, they would have been perfect fish. I didnt measure them, just weighed them on digital.

I'd like to tangle with a 40+ red! When I fish the LLM with my buddies, because of our bets and fishing contests, we're solely focused on the magic 28" number.

the big ones take 2-3 hard runs and then come strait to you
