It truly is sorry assed and horseshit and poorly handled and classless and all of the above. However I disagree with some of the posts in several ways:

1. I can sympathize with any business that tries to protect itself from the stupid, blood-sucking imposition of liability that the American Trial Lawyers have brought into our world. It affects all of us in ways we never think of. Large businesses pass it on in their price points--small businesses do the same--to the best of their abilities--but also live in terror of being shut down by a fantastic jury award. UWE almost certainly doesn't know Jerry for the tough, self-reliant man that he is, committed to taking responsibility for himself and not blaming others for what happens to him. That having been said, I personally doubt whether excluding someone with a past history of dehydration is a particularly effective measure of avoiding future liability on their part. In any case, we need to vote for candidates who advocate tort reform every chance we get. In the long run it is just as important to this country as a single issue as lowered taxes, right to life/choice--right behind our national security.

2. MrBill: No question it was badly handled. I would say, however, having read Jerry's reply to ALW, rather than "degraded" I would assess his reaction as in-your-face-rattle-snake-ass-kicking-pissed.

3. Jerry would be welcome on my boat as well (all 17 feet of it ), except that I would like to catch a few fish myself.

What I would recommend to those of us who feel as strongly as we have indicated is this: Rather than just quietly boycotting UWE or worse, calling them and bit%hing them out, call and talk to someone at the level of owner or the Captain, and quietly and rationally explain how you feel about the situation and ask whether there isn't something they can do to reconsider their policy. We can also add how strongly we feel about our friend being excluded--they may well take this into consideration (along with potential liability) in making their business decision.

Russ

Looks like there will be less of the nasty and inconsiderate folks on the Big E. That should improve things. I like the Big E and the way they operate thier boat and am planning more trips this year. I called UE and told them I was happy with their decision.

take a trip with me up to jersey and we'll fish some headboats up there. if you think texas people are nasty and inconsiderate you're living in a dream world . fisherman here are as nice as they come . being upset that a situation wasn't handled properly isn't being nasty or inconsiderate, especially since Jerry is a great guy. i'm not sure why you called to tell them that you were happy with their decision???

i too like the big e and will fish it at least one more time this year (would've been 2 but i cancelled this weekend). i have a feeling the capt/crew weren't the ones who made this call so I won't hold that against them. It just sucks the whole thing has come to this.

Well, there'll be at least one that I can see.

The man had no prior condition and, as far as anyone can tell, still doesn't. Dehydration isn't a prior condition or, if it is, we all have it. Your position is just like UE's decision, stupid and inconsiderate. But at least I give UE some chance of changing.

ALW, wtf? All these folks sticking up for their friend are 'nasty and inconsiderate?' And you're not, with a post like that? That may well be the most 'nasty and inconsiderate' post I have read in a while.

maybe it's time to shut that buisness down. cancel u alls trip, reasons for potential medical illness could occur. get ur money back. it seems the da not so big e feels it's a pain in da azz chore to request medical assisstant for their customers.

u don't need da not so big e to catch tuna, groupers, Ajs, etc. boycott.
