Basil did a GREAT job of filling my reel TIGHT with line and put the wind-on leader on it too! I was amazed at how much line he got on there!

Not true. I use, support, and stock all the line I sell. You could come to my shop and leave with any spool, test, color, or have your reel filled on the HD140 linewinder, and spliced on the spot.

I stand corrected . Nothing like having the line professionally spooled to maximize capacity and minimize line twist! I think I had bought JB multiple times from 2 or 3 places in the past and the spools themselves were always dropped shipped, so I thought that was routine. Sorry for the misstatement.

Maybe you can answer a question about JB 60? It seems from other posts, that one can only get 450 yds or so of JB 60 on a stella 20k, but I have more than that of PE 8 (avani SMP 8/12) on the reel (not much more, but a little). Is JB 60 thicker than the avani PE 8? I was considering dropping down to that line to add capacity, but it doesn't seem to be worth doing.

The 20K takes 550 yards of 60lb hollow, and 400 yards of 80lb hollow. The 60lb has less diameter than PE8. I'll post a Stella capacity chart shortly.

Thanks Basil!

Question, would the numbers be the same for other shimano reels of corresponding size classes. On shimano's website it gives different capacities for corresponding Saragosa's vs. Stella's. I would have presumed that for example, each 18000 size reel would have the same capacity. Can you help me out?

Yes, I have found the Saragosa and Stella spool capacities to be identical.

Basil,
Am deciding what to fill my 20K with and noticed the 80 and 100 lb have the same fill capacity? Is this correct? If so, why would one use the 80 if they can get the same capacity with the 100?

Yes, the lines are almost identical in size. In fact, 100lb is slightly smaller than 80lb due to 16x braid weave on the 80lb and 12x braid weave on the 100lb. 80lb is easier to splice, but 100lb is not difficult either.

I've used the 100# JB Hollow as a topshot on my tuna jigging/spin reels onto the 80# Daiwa metered solid braid, no problems splicing end loops or doing the solid to hollow splice! It was my first attempts at the hollow braid and I am using the DaHo Reverse Latch Needles.
