There are at least 3 different techniques used to join hollow to solid. You can goggle them, Basically you can insert the solid into the hollow and use an overhand knot as a serve. some people insert the solid doubled into the hollow and then serve. Pametfish has a technique where the solid is inserted into the hollow and a uni knot is used. Look all of them up and pick the one you like. I would recommend using a nail knot for a serve. Its very easy and neat.

Just do a nice long insertion. But yea, when I have solid on a reel I splice a loop of hollow on so that I can fish loop to loop.

Here's a link: Streamline: Links that has the Uni splice. That or a nail knot if you prefer will be stronger than the overhand knot approach.

Good question. No I mean that if you pulled on the Uni without any splice insertion, it might start to move at 6 - 10 lbs. That's okay in this floating splice design. And especially in a braid to braid splice since the amount of stretching is similar. At full load, there is only a few percent movement. At part-load where it is usually used, it stays put.
