The thickest layer of wax on it of any I have ever seen, multiple irregularities in the line itself, 65# routinely broke at less than 20#s, etc. The wax was so thick a live sardine was unable to pull line off a Trinidad 40 in freespool and casting a lure with a Stella got about half the normal distance because the line was all stuck to itself.

I emailed my contact at Western Filaments about it and although getting a response was really easy when I was placing the order, things went mysteriously silent when I had problems. No response whatsoever.

No problem, I switched to Stren Super-Braid and have been exceedingly happy

The colored Tuf-Line might be fine, but steer well clear of the white "XP" variety...

This is the only problem I see with the white tuf line. The coating is thick and the line seems to stick to itself fairly well. I will try to put water on the spool before trying to cast.

I forgot to add that I ordered my first 665 2-speed spooled with 80 pound Tuffline, and it was spooled too loosely. That was before I even knew that was a problem. The line was digging in all over the place. I took it off when I returned the reel (due to some kind of implosion inside) and spooled my next one with 80 pound JB hollow. My third one is now spooled with 80 pound Jigman. I have been meaning to try the Tuffline again, and I am going to spool it up on a 20K Stella for a friend to use in Venice.

I do remember it had a lot of greasy wax and was greenish yellow in color--kind of like when you feed a baby too much whole milk and green beans...but you get the picture.

I think this is the color you are trying to describe.

Okay that does it!

I'm never eating pistachio ice cream with almonds ever again while reading these threads.

Gunsmoke:You really need to hire Uncle Russ as your Public Relations and spokesperson. In that capacity, I would not allow you to communicate with anyone or appear in public, and would have your internet connectivity cut off. You need a slogan to start:

"Gunsmoke--making explicit that which was better left implicit."

Can the rest of ya'll imagine some poor schook who has never heard of this site doing a simple google on spooling Spectra, and coming up with that picture?

I'm just sayin'!

But the bottom line is YES--that's exactly the color I was trying to describe! You nailed it!!!!!

good stuff GS.
izorline spectra 65lb. is my favorite for casting, no coating and very thin. had no problems with breakage and very few problems with wind knots(only one experience). tuf line xp has been very good to me also, with no issues at all. I have been trying out some japanese pe lines and have many problems with breakage with the ygk ultra jigman. Varivas avani has done me right, with no breaks at all.
