Question Shimano Tiagra??

I am looking at getting a Tiagra as a heavy reel? Has anyone used one of these the 50w? How would you rate it and what kind of drag can I expect from it? Thanks Steve

I prefer them over Penn. Everyone is different, but I am all Tiagras when it comes to trolling. Good strength and very smooth. You can get 50lbs + out of a 50wlrs easy, but 35 at strike was the most I ever used. Although at times I would put it all the way over.

I have four of the 50WLRSA's. Nothing out there better except the ATD's. The tiagra's are on 70% of the tournament boats. That should tell you something. Go for it.

I have 4 50lrs and 4 wlrs, no problems. The 50 lrs is more balanced on the rod.

I have the 50w (not lrs). It is a great reel, but I never use it anymore. It is way too heavy for me (I believe it is over 5lbs), and is not balanced so I got a lot of wobble (I am a 'rail' fisherman). I fished it at over 30# drag with 80 mono no problems. Don't know if it would get more as I never tried.
