thanks - i would be shocked if you bought the reel and had it crumble under pressure (esp with it advertising 44lbs of drag....25-30 should be a breeze) and have Shimano just say "too bad, shouldve bought a Stella".

For the money it's a good gamble I think, just like Toriums and Saltists.

Fin-Nor and Shimano are two different companies........I would trust a Shimano more than a Fin Nor.

I fish shimano almost exclusively, and trust almost any of the reels they have come out with. I may also be getting one of these, but I'm going to wait to hear a few "field test" reports first.

I definitely want to hear if anyone goes for the bailless kit, which is what I would do, to see what they thnk of it. I kind of wish that they offered one for the 20K Stella as well.

Well dang... I was all excited to get my new Saragosa 14000 in and I just got an email from FTU saying that it was not in stock and that they would not have it until mid march...
I called in and talked to the manager(Steve?). He said he could cover the shipping to get an 18000 here quick(by monday) and apologized for the inconvenience.
Hopefully it will come soon and I can test it out!
If I decide I want a 14000 also I will just have to wait...

Did you ask what the basic differences are between 14000 and 18000 and why 18000 is lighter though it has more line capacity ?

Im going to guess the Saragosa 14000 and 18000 share the same body, with a different spool.Looks like the 6000 and 8000 do also. I'm going with the 14000,only because it will cost less to run one peice of braid all the way to the spool. If 300 + yards isnt enough, well then I have pretty big engine on the back of the boat.

Ember is right from what the guys at FTU have said. THey told me if you take the spools off then you can't tell the difference between the reels...
The 18000 just ahs more space.
I am assuming that means you can swap the spools from the 14000 to the 18000 and vice versa. Not a fact but I have a hunch...
If these reels turn out to be decent enough, they could be the poor mans Stella.
The manager at FTU seemed to think that it was very capable. He said he would love to sell me a Stella but couldn't, at this point, justify the cost difference.

This link says the same thing abou the new Spheros FB.

UPS just made a very late delivery with my Saragosa amongst some body products I had to order for the MRS to keep her mouth shut abou the reel.

At a first look I am really impressed for $300 bucks. I need to get a spool of line to fill it will and pull on the drag a little. Then order some new washers from smooth drag.

More to come.
