I think the saragosa with upgraded drag and handle will be the the ticket for me. Or at least I am willing to run that risk.

I thought the same about the Fin Nor's when they came out and mine broke on the first trip out, buying what you really want the first time around will save you alot of money.....trust me

Spheros14000-180$+ handle,part# RD8355-144$+bearing Part#RD 8202-11$+Smoothie drag -8$(343+shipping for the parts) =Saragosa 14000-299$. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Maybe this reel ready for big fish who knows. I just don't want to be unlucky guinea pig. For that 300$ you more than halfway to "old" stella price which is still dropping in many store. I choose one stella over two unproven malaysia reel. This only my advice to you. Purchase what you feel is best.

It may depend on where and how you fish. For my area, and style, much better off with two(or five) serviceable set-ups than one that may be marginally better. Wind knots, broken knots, broken rods, different lures, etc, just grab the next set-up and let 'er rip. They dont stay up long enough to re rig.

Many expensive Japanese jigging blanks are made in China.
Torium is made in Malaysia and Saltist is made in Korea.
I don't think Saragosa is low quality reel because they are made in Malaysia.

Excellent thread BretABaker!

It's drawn advice/info from some of the best anglers around!

If you and Kurtis do go with the Sara, I look forward to your reviews after using them!

Kil makes me feel a little better on the subject.
I am going to order one and give it a shot. If it does break I will upgrade to a Stella. If it doesnt I won't. Either way I will of course let everyone know ow it works for me.

I also odered a 18000F today. It is strange that 18000F has a little more line capacity than 14000F, but 18000F is lighter.
I am going to fill the reel with 80 lbs braided line and test with 25 lbs drag.
I hope I can get the reel before tuna popping in Gulf of Mexico or cubera snapper popping in 30 -50 lbs range in Central America.

I took fishr1989's advice and called Buckos parts. They have the Stella "T" knob for 36 bucks shipped. I will order one to put on the Saragosa 14000 that I ordered.
I should be able to put some fish on this reel the first weekend in march and will report on how it does!
