Yup... I saw a post somewhere (I think I told you this) that you can swap the Stella handles with the 18000 saragosa. I was wanting to looks at the Stella and Saragosa side by side and make sure the handles match up. Heck the threads and shaft might even be the same....
I really want to give this reel a try. I am having trouble not jumping on one of the Stella 20k's from ebay right now.
I am not sure that the difference between the saragosa and the 2007 Stella is worth the price diff. I definately know I'm not going to pay over 1k for the new Stella...

If you are serious about owning and keeping a quality spinning reel, just purchase the one you truly desire. Forget about the Saragosa. If it sells for 200 dollars, it doesn't have the guts for longevity.

I'm sure it's a nice reel for the money, but will it hold up in time to a bunch of YF's and GT's? Probably not. If your goal is a Stella, just save up for it. You won't be happy until get one. That's my two cents for the day.

You right Mr.Bill !
I keep on buying spinning reel (4 Stella, 2 Saltiga), but never have a change going tuna fishing (hopefully this year).
But I'm happy with the reel

I went to Fishing Tackle unlimited last Thursday and the new saragosa and the stella's handles threads are the same.....I personally switch them out....I also talked to the Reel repair department and they can order a large stella handle that will fit on the arm of the saragosa for $50 bucks....

I own the 6500 baitrunner, Thunnus, and the large spheros....and have landed Tuna over 110 lbs on each of the Baitrunner and spheros.....I had to palm the spool on the Baitrunner but still landed it.

With the amount of drag that you can put on a saragosa...There is not many Tuna in the gulf that can spool me....plus you have to be a mean SOB fish much more drag than 40 pounds for a long period of time.....

Here is a Tuna I caught in PV that took 1hour 15mins with 34 pounds of drag........so don't tell you need a wench to pull up big tuna

I think I am going to buy one of the big saragosa just because of the stella handles

$50 for the handle and it just screws on to the saragosa spinning arm

Only difference is the color of each reel arms.....saragosa is a silver gray and the stella is almost crome

The saragosa is made in Malaysia. I was sad to hear this from shimano rep. This was deciding factor for me not to purchase reel. Maybe for some people this not so important. But for me yes. Stella is proven and my advice is to hunt for good deal. Even back up reel for me need to have security.

go here, it's the shimano australia page, and there's a list of upgrades, including the drag/bearing/stella handle upgrade for the spheros

I think I will spend the extra money and try out the saragosa. I looked at upgrading a spheros before. It looked liek you could buy a stella by the time you wre done...
I think the saragosa with upgraded drag and handle will be the the ticket for me. Or at least I am willing to run that risk.
