I think that it's a great idea if it doesn't prohibit casting.
I saw the post you made about it on bloodydecks and I have to say that I am ashamed of the shortsightedness of most of the unwashed masses on the west coast. Living on the left coast myself, I am always disgusted by the caveman like mentality of 99% of my angling "brethren" over here. In their minds, if it's not a Newell on a 10' rod, it's not going to work. You should see the ridiculous looks I get from people just for fishing spectra instead of mono... The funny thing about it is that the overwhelming majority of those west coast "experts" is that they can't fish their way out of a wet paper bag... Keep up the good work!

Please don't use BD to stereotype the typical west coast fishermen. I think new ideas come from everywhere ( almost said all coasts LOL) and everywhere has innovative fishermen. I learn something everyday....just have to keep an open mind. Btw, I think that the using of spectra first, was a west coast thing so I am surprised by your comments. However, if you said that you get the horrendous looks when you bring on the spinner outfit....then you definitely have a legit complaint. I still get looks for that as well as my Acid wrapped rods!

Don't get me wrong Mel, I'm not saying that everyone this area is out in left field, I'm just saying that most of the guys on that board are.
I'm also not talking about using spectra in general, just using straight spectra (without a topshot). I haven't had the occasion to bring my new spinning rod on a trip yet, but I'm sure that it will raise a few eyebrows when I do...

Not at all saying you are wrong. Just that anyone that posts on BD can expect to get some flak. Just expect it. But there are also just as many on there that are different and do not generally express their thoughts. I see lots of changes in thinking on the west coast boards. I also see lots of west coast folks posting here as well as on the east coast board.
