The Necessity & George Poveromo

I was watching Big Game Fishing yesterday and George's show was a trip with Capt Ben Fairy on The Necessity sportfisher out of Orange Beach, AL!

I saw Tom, 1st Mate, and Jason, DH along with Capt Fairy.

They caught some Black Fin and a couple of Yellow Fin using the lures and techniques we taught them during our GEM 2005 trip!

They had an AFTCO kite working, threw Frenzy topwaters, and were even working jigs -with assist hooks- between 80 and 135 miles out.

The boat looked great with the Green Egg grill and who could forget the Satellite radio?!

I still remember Capt Fairy and Tom looking at how we were rigging -big topwaters, poppers, flying fish- and how they were thinking we didn't know what we were doing.

After the near mutiny was cleared up LOL!, and we made our first very successful drift, Capt Ben was all gung ho!

Anyway, thought it was cool!

Thanks for the heads up Tom.

I saw that boat sitting on the hook with a kite up at the lump in Feb of 2006...

The show re-airs on Sat 27 Jan at 6:00 am and Sun 28 at 6:30 am

Woohoo they landed some 5-10 pound blackfin and a 25 pound yellowfin. I happened to catch the show and love how they played up an awful catch. Plus a friend and I were wondering when the last time ole Capt Ben actually came out of the bridge to help gaff a fish.

I didn't see the show, but that is a sorry catch to make it to the television screen. I hate those lazy Capt's that just sit on the bridge and say "You should have been here two days ago, it was incredible". I never repeat with a lazy Capt. who just wants a charter to put food on the table. Trust me, there are a lot of them just like Capt. Ben.

Thats funny Eddie, he did come out of the bridge to watch us throw poppers, jigs and flyers.. for an hour or so(out of 3days offshore). Those were some really weak catches for that part of the gulf on that show..

LMAO...

That Capt and the boat owner do not want Been out of the range of the controls for the boat. USCG regs may state that you have to have 2 licensed capts aboard for trips longer than 24 hrs... Ya ain't gotta use 'em. The boat works to provide an income for the capt and mates plus it pays part of the upkeep and dockage costs.

There are many reasons why I reccomend Capts Eddie Burger and Mike Ellis. Shake my hand and look me in the eye. They fish with a passion that I respect and admire.
