Marking braid for depth control

how do you mark your braid for depth control while jigging ? the braid
on my new reels is white , Could I just mark with a black sharpie every
50 ft ? could this damage the line in any way ?
Thanks
Mo

MO1,

Yes, you can mark your braided line. I marked few of my JB spectra for deep drop and I have not seen any demage to my marked JB. JMO others might have different opinion.

Sharpie won't cause any problems on spectra. It works well for marking depth as well as a help when splicing and building topshots.

What marking scheme do you all use? Do you use two or more colors?

I am thinking red and black , alternating every 50 feet. coloring a six inch
section at 50 ft red, 1 ft black at 100 , 11/2 ft red at 150 , 2 ft black at 200
etc.

Hey Mo-

Just a suggestion, but every 25 feet would help you better dial in to the depth that the fish are holding.

i am doing mine right now. Using red as the 25' (one red for 25, two reds for 50, three reds for 75) then using blacks for the 100' marks (one black for 100, two black for 200, 3 black for 300, and 4 for 400, 5 for 500. ending at 600'-
