I'm in So Cal. Most of my friends are using a knot called the Tony Pena, but for some reason, I have trouble with it. For leader to hook, I'll tie a San Diego or just a good old improved clinch (don't laugh, it hasn't failed me yet).

tony pena? like the first baseman who has been a letdown after a nice 2007 season? does the knot hold well for one cast then bottom out?

I found this site by searching the "Tony Pena Knot". I have no affiliation with this site. Pena Knot What's really cool about this knot is that the tag end points towards the spectra, so if you fish with a longer leader (that winds through your guides), it doesn't catch the guides during casting.
