Cal 2 speed and 20T?

I have an older Penn 20T that I have not been using and was cosidering
getting it converted to a 2sp and blue printed. With a 80 to 100 lb braid
package in mind. For me this would be an upper colum chunk or live bait rig.

Questions, Cal 2spd does not advertise a turn around time, what could be expected?

2nd should I take that $245 add another $100 and look for another 2 sp lever drag for this applacation. Of course I am not interested in throwing money at a Big Gold Zebco.

I've spent hours reading these tackle threads and that is were I got the idea about getting the 20T back in the line up.

Thanks in advance

Cal has completed work for me in under 2 weeks (not including transit time) but I also let him (or Eric) know that I needed a quick turn around. Generally his backlog runs around 30days. Outside of the Lump, the 20T makes a killer live bait / chunk rig, and if you eat your wheaties it'll handle the lump fish too.

There are not many other "unblueprinted" choices for a 20 sized reel that'll fish 80. In fact the list may begin and end with the Accurate ATD12.

To make it truly trick, add one of John Baker's Topless 20 frames and a T-Bar handle (Cal can do this). Unless you do alot of live bait casting and flylining I'm not sure there is a reason to get all these mods, but reason is highly overrated.

Topless 20T's are cool as hell, so I say go for it.

Sell the 20t, and use the cash and your savings to buy an Avet Pro30N.

The Pro30 Narrow is just about the same size as my TLD20II, it's topless, freespools like a blueprint, comes in different colors, has the articulated handle, and is guaranteed to fish 80 lb line right out of the box and holds 600 yds of 80 JB hollow to boot.

Go with the Avet Pro 30N or a Tiagra 16.
I've got both and prefer the Pro 30 for deep drops or large YF chunking.

Thanks for the feedback, Both ways.
Charkbait got an order for
an Avet. and Cabelas got one for
a Fin Nor OS95. These will be spolled
with Braid.
And for now as I learn more about braid lines the 20t will remain a mono spooled 1 speed reel. Converting it still intrests me but will be later.
Next braid up grade will be to one of my 9/0 senators on a magnafulx bottom special. (broom stick/rail rod). I'll have some information request on this later.

Thanks again.
I'll be on the Big E March 30

take the 20T, put some carbon fiber drags in it, shim the drag washers so it will button down more... then load it with 130# jb Hollow.. sounds like a good AJ rig.

thinking of getting an AVET 4/02(instead of a 50SDS) and shimming the drag to obtain 30# and still maintain 45 seconds of freespool..... would save me ~$200 and still have the 35# of drag I want.

Fishhead,
Once you start using two speeds for big or tough fish you'll regulate that 9/0 to the surf or a loaner.

PM me if you want help on tuning that 20T. Drag upgrade and freespoolers.
