brand new avet lx- grinding drag?

Hey guys, just took delivery of a vet lx mc, very nice, however when drag is letting line go it makes a slight grinding noise, is this because the reel is new? and drag needs to be worn in a bit?

ive also read online that people recommend a bit of drag greese on the carbon drag washers, is this necesary?

thanks

it's probably normal. on my avets I noticed the drag feels a little rough at first but smoothes right out with use.

Avet doesn't recommend grease, check out Alan Tanis report.

wet versus dry drags

Hope this helps.

Avets need to have their drag broken in. They get stronger and smoother after a few good runs. What I like to do is tie off to a car's bumper and drive off for a hundred or so yards at 20-25mph with the drag set at less than max and the lever below Strike. Repeat 3 times gradually moving the lever and drag up to full throttle. You will notice it is a little jerky on the first run or two, but then smoothes right out.

If you push the lever all the way to full, have you ever successfully landed one of those cars?

Not possible with an LX. You might want to try it with a Raptor HX. Make sure your knots are good.

my lx or 4/0 did not have a grinding sound or feel. the only time i had a grinding feel was when a bearing went out on the lx. the bearing do not have enough lube from the factory. once i broke them down and relubed the bearing i have not had one fail.

It was a good thing I was in a harness for the 50W. My friend said he could feel/hear the tension on the line through the car. I don't think it slowed him down any though.
