I can get a 35 turn and higher bimini to hold in spectra with little to no problem. I saw the article in Saltwater Sporstman a while back and saw they were doing breaking tests with 12 turn to 20 turn and wondering how they were getting them to hold without slipping to even complete the test. They claimed the 12 turn held better than BTs with higher number of turns.

Perhaps the slipping helped cushion the blow? Sort of like a shock absorber?

I NEVER got a 12 turn to hold properly, 35 to 40 yes.

Cool

Jerry, Jureal, and Doug: You are right of course, and I admit to being something of a dinosaur. And I definitely will learn at some point--hell, I may even learn to tie that knot that you, Doug, and TJ were tying with the $475.37 bobbin. But my go-to knots will always be the ones I have been tying since before you were born. (Not Jerry, of course:--I'll bet he was forty when I came on the scene.

But in my defense, I have never had a breakage of any loop not involving Power Pro. And I tend to use heavier line than most folks for the same application--and remember we are talking about loops here--and not so much anything involving jigging or popping.

And even where making a loop for a windon for jigging, if I have a 70 percent knot in 80 pound Spectra, that is 56 pounds. And I tend to follow Kil's advice and set the drag to the twenties when jigging--sooooo, I have some pretty good safety factor built in (admittedly not 25 percent.)

If I jig for big AJ s, I am going to use a 7-turn loop in 130, which should get me a breaking strength of about 90 pounds.

What it boils down to is I respect ya'll's opinions, I am definitely up on the theory of your knots, and will someday get along to tying some of them--in the meantime, I've got some knots I can tie in the dark in 12 foot waves, while Doug and TJ are trying to find that Page Ranking bobbin up their rectal cavities.

I'm just sayin....

Russ
