Bazztex and I got together and came up with a homemade version of a belt and harness.... I just took pics and they are downloading to photobucket. He has a friend who stitched the belt and harness with the huge machine... then I got us some aircraft aluminum cut to rough size and took it to Bazztex (who is an aircraft aluminum structural guy) he put some bends, and round edges on it- then riveted on the gimbal, and put a swirl finish on the exterior.... the plate weighs 3 lbs (36 oz) on the scale. Bazz also put us some hig quality foam type compression padding on the back where the plate sits on the thighs. The plate is bent at an angle where it wont shift on the thighs- I have tried to get it to move under load, and it always centers itself on the thighs. I think we have about $30 in these setups not including the drop/ reel straps. I have to get some braid reel straps with the quick release end.

let me go check.....65 pounds... LOL!! I didnt have it off the ground- but it WAS sliding all around the place.. so it was on the verge of coming off the ground... LOL!! This harness stuff is pretty cool! You can apply some MAJOR leverage!
all the credit goes to Bazztex on this deal.. all I did was find the sheet metal/aluminum...

triton metals in Plano off forest rd was where I picked up the 10x20 6160 aluminum pieces.. they are 1/8" thick. i think they were $15-20 each
thats funny= the green cooler if full of fishing junk... and the tackle box is loaded full of topwaters in the picture... I think I need to put all my fishing stuff in one place.. its scattered all over the whole building.

I think I have an 1/8 sheet out in the shop. Is that strong enough?
3/16 may be better huh? Skeeter I know what you mean, I am always finding stuff I forgot I had. I have a complete machine shop just for hobby stuff.

the thickness doesnt matter as much as the type of aluminum it is. aircraft aluminum is made for rigidity and strength. Bazztex said he had the plate in a vise and was putting his full weight on the cheater pipe to put the slight bends in it.... think hes close to 200# and with a cheater pipe it multiplies the force.
