Berkley Big Game hollow?

Anybody tried this out yet or should I just stick with Jerry Brown?

there are only a few manufacturers of spectre. jerry brown is a fine product and has a great following. i have started to use other brands just to compare and have not had any disappointments with power pro as others have stated. i also have tried the stren spectre and have had no issues with it other than being exactly like power pro and the waxy dye getting on you when you spool it up. to me the only reason to purchase jerry brown is for the ability to make splice connections in the hollow 80lb or hollow 130lb for making windons or ease of adding top shots. due to the weave of the jerry brown 80lb spectre it is very expensive. i have been very impressed with the spectre that ocean tackle international is importing from china. by the way i am on their staff but if it wasn't a better product i wouldn't use it. they have a 16 strand weave spectre that is going on all my jigging and popper reels in the next few weeks......rick

I've got a spool of the BG hollow white, it is thinner than JB but not as smooth.

the OTI 16weave is pretty neat stuff! I got to see a sample of it while picking up a rod. I of course will be spooling future reel purchases with it as well...

Is OTI 16 weave thinner or thicker than JB similar products? What makes 16 weave good? Is JB 8 weave or what weave? It seems thinner is better less resistance to casting and current.

Hey MrBill- OTI will soon be offering a spectra with depth markings (4 different colors) every 25 feet to help with depth control of your jig.

The weaving of mulitple strands creates a strong, narrow, but also "limp" fishing line that is very soft to the touch.

I don't know what strand JB is, if any.

thanks guys i think I'll jsut stick to the JB for now, I know I like it and I'd hate to waste the money on 600 yards of 130lb berkley just to have to pull it off if i didn't like it

the sample of the OTI stuff I saw looked a lot thinner than JB of the same strength.. The Jb is 8 weave I believe. The OTI spectra is very flexible, and the colored marking is great.... I will use the OTI on my special applications, and stay with JB on my bottom rig so that I can use the 100% loop strength.

Yo Mr. Bill,

Actually the hollow spectra allows for the markings by splicing in colored hollow spectra at any division you choose. You can use a multiple of colors to show say every 25 or 50 ft. The hollow splice is 100% strong and only take up about 24 inches of line or less. Additionally, the splice is so clean you will not feel the connections even with the tips of your fingers.

One other great thing about the hollow is you can splice in say 130 pound on top of the 80 pound hollow so the end game can be played out on heavier line. This also allows a fisherman trying to fish smaller reels to say start with 60 pound hollow then splice in 80 for the last 50 yds allowing for more line on the reel. Again the splice is 100% strong and the hollow loop can be used over and over again. NO bimini's and no knots.

I am sold on the hollow and of course the longevity of the spectra amortizes the expense over a long period of time. The ability to cut out worn sections of the hollow, without losing the entire spool, again provides for cost cutting over a period of time.

Berkley makes good stuff. I'm sure they tested the hollow core many many times before putting it on the market. I have used their Big Game mono for many years without a complaint.

I would like to see some color markings on my jigging setups. When you're marking fish on the recorder at a certain depth, it's almost impossible to lower a jig to say 175 feet by guessing. That's my only problem with a solid color spectra like power pro.
