Only use the round solid rings on all size jigs. Don't use the little ones. I only use the 700 and 900 pound size. If you can only get the Owner solid rings, just buy the 9.0 size rated at 900#'s. You want the solid ring stainless steel wire size to be at least 4mm thick and about 14mm to 16mm outside diameter. Fluorocarbon and mono won't get cut by it. Fish it confidently with up to 50#s of drag.
Some the smaller jigs only have a little loop at the head of the jig. Use the biggest split ring that will let it move freely. I'm a firm believer in using heavy duty terminal connections, solid knots, crimps, ball bearing swivels and high grade hooks. Life's to short to lose fish on cheap second rate terminal tackle. |

Dunno. I was fishing about 25 lbs or so of drag on my Saltiga and getting beat (I was fishing a long rod...
). At 25lbs, it held up just fine. However, due to the fact that Dacron is a bit easier to cut, I doubt they will have the longevity of Spectra. ![]() |
