* Avet HX - Braid or Mono?

I'm picking up a Avet HX 2-speed. I want to be able to use it for an all-around reel. Jigging Tuna, bait fishing for tuna, deep water cod fishing. Mostly for Tuna though.

Should I throw 80lb braid on there or 60lb. mono?

any info appreciated.

Jigging is easier with braid plus you get more capacity with braid.

From past experiences..go with braid, less resistance while going deep and much better feel for the bite...

astro..

I would also recommend going with a metered braid, slatiga boat braid or OTI depth finder are good bets for the money. Sure makes it easy to get into the "zone" when jigging.

Would the braid be ok if I wanted to switch to bait fishing for tuna?

Sure, just tie on a moderate length of either mono or floro leader and you are set. I use a similar set up for drifting chunks in the Gulf of Mexico and it works like a charm. YFT here can be leader shy so I normally use floro in either 60 or 80#, depends on the bite.

Great thanks. About how many feet of leader?

I use 60 or 80lb JB hollow with a 100yd topshot from basil of mono. The new HX raptor with mags and bumped up drag is nice too. I don't use mine for jigging much, mostly poppers or bait/chunk.

I have an HX filled with 80# Solid. I have a sliced loop with 80# hollow and made up L2Ls with 25yds spools of 40#, 50# & 60# flouro. Whatever needs I just change the L2Ls. I use mine for bottomfishing, yoyo jigging and live bait, I love my HX! Shooting for the HXJ Raptor, the narrow HX and 50# max drag; may never use that much drag but I love the fact that my setup is capable of that much!
