I have many, many different brands of reels so I'm not 'stuck' on a brand but during all of my searching on the net and talking to previous owners it seemed many just weren't happy with them. I'm not trying to bash Accurate by any means, but for the price they charge you should have 100% faith all the time in the tackle you are using.

as i mentioned in my for sale post, i just got my reel back from accurate. When I spoke with a girl who works at a desk i was not satisfied with the customer service. however when i spoke to the service dept manager i was very satisfied as he addressed my concerns and personally called me with updates. they also changed out the drag washers when it really wasn't necessary which i thought was nice.

good tackle only hurts once . . .

A really important point. Life is too short to spend fishing w/tackle you don't really enjoy using. That's why they* say good tackle hurts only when you buy it, but cheap tackle hurts every time you use it.

*who's "they?" Why, tackle ho's, of course.

Jig and Doug said it well. Here is how I feel:

1. The ATD reels are tanks--incredible pieces of machinery.
2. So are the Twinspins--so far as I can tell to date with limited use.
3. I have had trouble with the Boss reels (or, more specifically with the 665 wide 2 speeds. So have a lot of others.
4. My experience is OK as far as it goes, but I don't fish as much as a lot of other folks. So I read what they say. My unscientific polling says way more than half of the people who comment like their Boss reels--but a significant portion do not.

Bottom line: Based on my admittedly limited experience and extremely wide-spread internet research (whatever that's worth), I would recommend the ATD s and Twinspins to anyone. I would recommend they stay away from the 665 wide 2 speeds.

I still love Accurate, and I am not "afraid" to put pressure on the 665--I just have lots of uses for tackle, and it will make a great snapper reel. I will almost certainly buy a Saltiga 50 for East Coast style jigging.

I agree on the ATD's (don't own any Twinspins). However, I wouldn't take a handful of Boss 2-speeds on a trip with me if they were free - burned twice, not revisiting that chapter.

The ATD's are a masterful piece of fishing equipment. It's the reel I want in my hands when a fish of a lifetime hits. I've got a bottom feeder price on a
B2-30. I'll probably pull the trigger as it's a good deal and I think Accurate has done their homework on this reel. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Since mechanical problems have me dry docked, I'll chime in about the twinspins. The twinspins are great. It's a spinning reel tank. I think it is the coolest looking spinning reel on the market. Super heavy duty. I love my Stella's, but go to the twinspins more often. I took my 20 out a few times this year. It got passed around a lot. It's caught at least eight ling, two hoo's, kingfish, snapper, a small sailfish and one nice AJ. Everybody loves it.

One thing to think about is spool capacity. Some times you hook on a fish that is bigger than you are targeting. Always carry extra reels, line or filled spare spools for your spinner.

Below is a video of what can happen when the big boy gets hooked. The best thing about this video is fun these guys are having. That to me is what fishing is all about. Having fun with your buddies is the main reason for being on the water. Turning the boat to chase the fish happened to late. It appears the connection from the braid to the lure or mono gave way at the end. Anyway, it's nice to see guys having fun on the water. That's the way I fish with my friends. The guys in the video will be laughing and telling stories for years on their buddy.

Here's the video.

I received a B2-30. Very nice. I've been playing with it and it is better than I expected. The frame is thicker than the regular Boss. The gears are really smooth. It's just feels a lot stronger. I'll give a better report on the reel after I test it. I see no reason I couldn't jig with this reel when targeting big fish. I want to do drag curve charts for various reels. It might take me a couple of weeks but it will happen. I took a bunch of pics. Here's a couple of pics to show you the size difference between the B2-30 and 665's. It's only 3/8" larger in diameter than the 665's. I'm looking forward to buying the B2-50.

I think I will stick with my 665W; just too similar. Have you checked the max drag vs. the 665W? The listed specs showed the 30 was less than the 665W, but that may be just accurates reaction to the 'Uncle Russ problem.' :-)

I will be giving a close look to the 50. I think (or at least hope) that reel will fill a nice niche in the 80-100# class.

I looks very similar but it's a lot heavier duty. The frame is at least 30% thicker than the regular boss. The gears are a lot more stout. Even the reel clamp is at least 50% larger. The studs coming out of the reel for the reel seat are twice as large as the regular boss. It feels different when you crank it. It's very smooth. The new handle is offset and almost fit's my hands.

This reel is intended to fill a gap between the boss and the ATD's without a huge price tag. All I can say is it looks like they have learned a lesson that the 665 2-speeds are being used for fish beyond it's design. I've heard that they had a bad batch of gears on some of the original 2-speeds. That has been corrected. They have done everything possible to make the B2-30 a "Boss Extreme". Time will tell if this reel is heavy duty enough. All I can say is it is nice and strong. It's not an ATD, but it's beyond the regular series as far as handling bigger fish. I'll post some more pics of it tonight.
