it weighed 189#s. caught in the caymans. boat had a 5ft beam.

I wouldn't have even boarded that boat. I guess you make do with what you have and deal with it.
Here's a big broadbill taken during the day in Florida. 550 pounds. I think it was recently. On a normal size boat!
