The knot has been used by serious bottom fishing fishermen and commercial fishermen for many years and it is much better and stronger than the dropper loop knot.. |

Ksong,
I'll have to try that Stand off Knot. It looks nice. I've used the dropper knot for years and only a couple of failures have happened. How's the weather in New York? I'm scheduled to be there this Friday through Monday. It's supposed to be a vacation with bunch of other friends. 99 wild Texan's invading NYC. The weather looks miserable on the news. I plan to go fishing any day this weekend, but weather doesn't look good. On the way to my office today I saw five auto accidents due to icy road condition. When you happen to have time in NYC, contact me. we can have sake at Japanese sushi restaurant in Manhattan and I can show you how to tie Stand-off knot. MrBIll said you don't like sake, then I'll make a special arrangement you can drink anything you want. I am a fishing mentor of the sush chef and he has to listen what I ask. ![]() Here is review of Ushiwakamaru sushi restaurant I go. The restaurant is not fancy, but the quality of sush is one of the best in NY and you can enjoy authentic Japanese sushi not compromised to Western. http://www.chowhound.com/topics/363201 Last edited by ksong : 02-14-2007 at 07:57 PM. |

Ksong,
That's true, I don't drink anything that doesn't have ice in it. The big problem right now is my wife went to the doctor today and it appears she has to have back surgery tomorrow. It's not major, but she is not supposed to make and quick movements for 72 hours. Therefore, she will not be able to travel. I already paid for the trip, and if I can get a kitchen pass I will come to NYC. I'm thinking if I go to NYC and leave her at home alone, I might be looked upon as a jerk. She's very nice and puts up with a lot from me. I'm actually very lucky that anybody married me. I would love to eat at Ushiwakamaru's sushi restaurant and tie knots at the table. That would suit me just fine. Fancy is not my cup of tea. I had enough fancy tonight at a valentine's dinner at a high jacker place. I probably paid more tonight then Ushiwakamaru charges in NYC. I will know if I am coming to NYC by 5PM Thursday evening. If I come, I would enjoy meeting you. Just understand, that I am from Texas and talk with a loud twang. I was just checking my emails, and It's possible that Newark might be shut down Friday because of ice problems. It's a private direct charter. The guy in charge of the trip is going crazy right now. I hope that I can make it. Last edited by Gunsmoke : 02-14-2007 at 11:09 PM. |

Gunsmoke, you shouldn't have any problem to come Friday as condition is improving. I might go fishing to Maryland on Sat as it seems Sat is the only fishable day, but I can meet you late on Sat if Sat is the only night you can find time.

Ksong,
I won't be coming to NYC. We ran into some problems today. I learned two things today. 1) The unexpected can happen to you. 2) Don't be a tight Arse and pay the $545 for trip insurance next time. Good luck in Maryland. I talked to a relative in Norfolk. Va. a while ago, and he said the seas were 30 feet offshore. I gather a nor-eastern was hitting the coast. |

Ksong,
My friends that went to NYC just got back and said it was very cold. When they left the Ritz this morning, it was 11 degrees with a chill factor of -3 degrees. When they arrived awhile ago, its a pleasant 77 degrees. I didn't miss much, as all they did was drink, tell stories, and try to keep warm. My question to you is: How do you fish in that weather? Sometimes in the summer, my wife throws me this question (Are you going "sweating" this weekend?). My answer always is (yes, I'm going sweating in the deep blue). |
