Walleye is on a distinguished road
I was standing right beside Snagged last fall when he caught one on a jig. I was impressed by how slowly he worked it. I have caught only one yellowfin on a jig while fishing with Eddie. I was pitching Shimano butterfly jigs to the side of the boat while we were bump trolling. At the end, the retrieve was essentially fast trolling. I caught a little two or three pound puppy yellowfin that way...interesting since it was pretty much a fluke too.

I like Jigging for AJ's when you can get them to cooperate. We got around 20 AJ's 25-30# on a 6oz Chrome Diamond jig with a Bucktail dressed hook on the Tres Tuna Trip. I had Ross and Capt Kieth (DSH) helping to spell me every other fish.

It was simple as droping to the bottom... reeling up 3-5 cranks and ripping the jig up 10ft then letting it tumble back on a simi slack line just above the bottom.

You need to follow the jig back down with your rod tip so you can feel the bump when an AJ takes it. You have to get on them AJ's fast or they will have you hung / broke off in the rig legs pronto!

I hope to catch a few AJ's and Grouper on Jigs this trip... nothing beats that fast action and Awesome hard hits.

I use 150 lb mono didn't have any problem getting bit. I had one large fish bite through 100 lb. mono so I changed my ways never got bit through after that. At these depths I don't think visibility of line or leader is an issue.

Is anyone having sucess using a larger leader- such as 100-125# flouro.?? I am thinking I will go up to 80# for the added abrasion resistance next time.

The first yft i caught on this past trip and first in my life was on a shimano jig. It hit it twice before I hooked up with it. Or one it and then another. It was on the drop deeper than those around me were hooking up with bft. Then I looked over my shoulder and saw topwater action and that was all she wrote for jigging.
