Richard .... the pic is of the trip I was trying to get bodies for ....nobody here was on that one. Cliff probably took some pics of their trip. Maybe he will post them. Sometimes he doesn't like to post pics so he may send them to me ... I'll post them for him.

Do you happen to know if they hit a "Spar" or a "Semisubmersible"? I talked to a hunting buddy this afternoon that fished last night. He told me that the topwater bite was the best he had ever seen. They left out of South Padre Island. He said at times there would be 15 to 20 YF's airborne at one time. They even had a guy on board that hooked up three times on his fly rod. None were landed. The tuna's jaws were to brutal for his hand tied fly poppers. He's remaking some with stronger hooks. They were fishing at Noble Clyde Boudreaux. It's a semisubmersible. Very large. Sleeps 200 men.

Shell signed a two year contract with Noble drilling for the rigs services. I believe the contract ends around this time next year. I think it cost 75 million a year to lease the semisubmersible. No wonder fuel is so high.

Ask your buddy that went on the pelican to describe the floater to you. The typical deepwater ones like boomvang is a "Spar". Single column. The reason I am asking is because Noble Clyde Boudreaux is a long run from Port A. I didn't know that head boats out of Port A ran that far. Here's the difference. First pic is a spar. Second is a semisubmersible.

I will call him later today. Depending on how many "Bud's" he'd had at the time he may not remember.

He does not attend these boards but Cliff does occasionally so maybe he'll pop in here.

I heard from Cliff this morning, he'll be posting a report a little later. Said the trip was fantastic!! I'll leave it to him and the other anglers to tell.

Gunsmoke ....

I spoke with my friend and he said he thought the floater had six (6) supports that extended below it into the water. If this is the case I gather it would not be a spar if I'm reading the illustration right. He said it definitely was not a single ....

He seemd pretty confidant that this floater was located 120 miles east of SPI and 165 miles from (due south???) Port A.

Hope this helps.

GS,

This morning Cliff told me it was the Boudreaux, and yep, it took a long time to get there and there is very little out there. I remember he commented on how long they cruised without seeing anything but water!

Looking forward to hearing more.
