Hey I had the same issue on my trip as well. I lost several tuna before I got the hang of setting the hook hard initially and keeping the line tight. One tenth of a second of slack equaled a lost fish. I swithched from the diamond jig to the Williamson Bethos speed jig with a single hook on top a and a single hook on bottom and outfished the diamond jigs that day... I used pink or chartreus and caught BFT on both. I usually cast out away from the boat and watched my line as it sank to see if it stopped on the way down. Then I would reel up and set the hook hard and keep the pressure on or if they hit on the way up I just set the hook on the strike... The key was keeping the line tight during the fight.
