Does anyone have any tips for sizing up an outing around cancuun. We will be staying at Playa del Carma. Never been there but would like to fish while I'm there. all suggestions appreciated.

My info may be a little dated but I'll tell you what I know. Stayed at Iberostar in Playa del Carmen a few years ago and it;s a pretty good haul from Cancun. Maybe 1-2 hours drive from the airport. A long way to go via taxi or ? early morning for a charter. Looked around the area for fishing boats. Saw none but the hotel would book one for you. They were going out of Porto Adventuras (sp?) which is about half way back to Cancun. I was told the better sportfishing was out of Isla Mujares nearer to Cancun. Sorry I can't tell you more but enjoy your vacation and post some pics when you get back. Bert

Puerto Aventuras is a great place only 1 hour from Cancun's international airport. It's about 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen. The highway between Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras was just paved after the hurricane last year. Puerto Aventuras is your best bet. I have a friend that keeps a 31 bertram in Puerto Aventuras. He might still own a fleet of 31's that charter out of Puerto Aventuras. If you want, I can email him and get more info. I went with him there about four years ago. We were staying in Cozumel and he brought about five 31s over for a tournament among friends. I fished with him earlier this spring and forgot to ask him if he still had his charter business down there.

Rick , I'm definitely looking forward to the GEM 06 trip and fishing with you and the others again. I'm hoping to soak a line while i'm there, but take reassurance in the thought that there are enough bikinis and tequila to ease my pain if I dont get to.
