Bluefin madness video

Below is a link to a video from Greymouth, New Zealand. The bluefins in that region are big. 250 to 800 pounds. This guy jumps over the boat and hand feeds chum to these brutes.

There was a few of us including Scott (pictured); who planned to do it this July... catching those giant BFT with spinning gears and jigs, we had many crazy ideas to deal with the lack of capacity.

Tuna are all over those Russian factory boats catching Hokis, some kind of fish. According to Scott, getting them to bite a jig is the least problem.... howabout fighting a fish for 21hrs and losing it to swivel failure?

Enjoy the pics...

MrBill,
It looks the boat is the Cascade on which we are going to fish in Three Kings Island, NZ in April.

Ksong,
What are the prime tuna fishing months for Three Kings Island?
Is Three Kings Island anywhere near Greymouth?

Maybe I can switch my trip from NY to New Zealand. Wife probably won't go for it, but she can go to NY and I can go wrestle with those huge bluefins. I'll see if I can get a kitchen pass if February is a good month for the bluefins.

The Three Kings Island is located off the northern tip of North Island while giant tuna fishery is located off the southern tip of South Island. we are targeting huge yellowtail and giant seabass/hapuka in Three Kings Island.
I have to find out when is the best month to target the giant bluefin tuna, but I heard weather can be a big problem there.

the chart of Three Kings Island off northern tip of North Island
