The guy with the calcutta almost did end up with davy jones after he ate my steak and corn! Hope he does read this,b/c after I confronted him he sure did seem to try and be buddy buddy.

I don't understand why Big E allowed a guy to fight a tuna with such a small reel for two hours. When I fished on the Jamaica on Sun/Mon two regular guys used two baited rods at the same time and obviously it caused many tangles when bites became hot. I told Capt about the problem and he asked them not to use two rods. One guys on the same trip hooked a 70 lbs yft with his Shimano's Trevala jigging rod. He said loudly how fun it was and how strong the Trevala rod was with a big smile. When he landed the fish finally, 5 lines were tangled with his line. That is why I call Trevala rod doesn't belong to offshore. Many guys say proudly how easily they can land a nice tuna with 40- 50 lbs line, but it is not a proud thing to do it on a crowded party boat.

I was approached by a gentleman who I think was Vietnamese. He said: "Nice fish. Would you mind if I had my picture taken with it?" I told him no, go right ahead. So he handed his camera to his buddy, walked over, picked the yellowfin up by the tail, and lifted it up cheerfully about a foot off the ground, smiling the whole time. The guy was about half my size. So much for another myth busted!

Hi Russ, you are right. Asian guys are pretty strong for their sizes.

Gunsmoke: I don't like to run down folks' tackle, but I guess I was picturing the stuff that would be on the boat as very similar to what the folks on this board talk about. And they seemed like excellent fishermen--hard core with lot's of experience. And I know that not everyone can make Stellas and Accurates their priority. Personally my buddies and I pretty much have to make it our ONLY priority (except for Steve who buys Stellas AND Corvettes), but you would not have believed the amount of crap on that boat. Personally, rather than buy 5 or 6 Penns 9500 s and Senators, I would rather buy a couple of medium priced rods and reels such as one of the graphite reels (hoping you wouldn't show up to deep six it) and at least have a good chance to land the fish you expect to run into. Hell, buy a Newell and a glass Tuna Stick. The point is that even you would have tired yourself out tossing all of the inadequate stuff overboard. I am sounding like a freaking elitist and I really am not, and everyone else seemed to handle it all fine except that one guy who stood out.

Skeeter: I had not realized the guy was the same one who ate Jason's steak (his second huge ribeyeof the night that he was saving for a protien high). Personally, I would rather get down on all fours and crawl at a pit bull and growling rather than get between Jason and his food. (When you travel with him, his uncle takes along a huge food dish marked "Jason" and you have to stop about every two hours and pour it full out of 50 pound bag he carries and then wait for about 30 seconds while he wolfs it down. That old boy has no idea what serious trouble he was courting eating Jason's food.
