Mr Bill

Congrats on the fine YFT trip and Happy Belated Birthday.. wished we could have got together on Cinco in Oct. I hope we can get out there in May this go round. I think we may try the Lump in Jan just to get a Tuna fix sooner.

The Tuna Hunters are now being constructed of solid Cypress Wood , the broken ones I've seen are made from injected Foam with a Urathane hard outer coating. I have around 6 of the old style hunters but I have some of the solid wood ones I hand made that www.PersuaderLures.com painted for Cinco Tuna as back ups.

One thing a lot of folks struggle with is foul hooked Tuna. When you get one hooked in the body it's very hard to control them .. even one around 80# can be a hand full when foul hooked. It's not always the equipnment that is too light.

I had one around 120# hooked in the eye socket on a chunk bait last year that was a real SOB. I had it on an 80# Calstar GF765H custom roller rod with a Ti 30W LRSA and 80# line.

We had color in 5 minutes then it went spazzoid and took about 350yds straight out on 25# drag. Then when I got'er back in ,it went up and down the boat 5 times over a 30 min period we had color 5 times only to have it take off another 100 yds again.

My hands went to sleep making me afraid I would loose the rod and fish. I handed the rod to Gulf Eagle deckhand Tony to get it in... He started Pumping it up and it took off again for about 50yds.. even he said that is One Tuff Ole' Tuna...LoL

Hey Jerry, good to see you at the dock yesterday. The trip was fun and the boat was exactly how you described it. Spot on about the crew, they work hard to get fish in the boat.

Good for Chuck. He deserves a blue. They trolled for about an hour with us while we were waiting for the sun to go down. I gather that is when he hooked up. He said he was going for two weekends in a row. How was the tuna bite. The deckhands on the boat are great. One of the guys that was with me, has booked the boat for a private tuan charter. I think he told me that the charter will be the pelican instead of the Gulf Eagle. Looking at the buoy reports, weather was nice out there this weekend off Port A.

How big was the blue? Did they kill it or send it back?

The Blue was hooked around 12:30-1pm. We came inshore to Falcon to fish for AJ's, got the boat limit in about 45minutes, very good average size for all the AJ's, no measuring needed, also a couple of Warsaw's (one was dinner for the boat) and scamps. We headed back out trolling along the way. The trolling lines were put out and then Chris and Tony went down for some much needed sleep, which didnt happen because about 30 minutes after they went inside, all hell broke loose.
Chuck, my buddy Chad, this english man and I were the only ones on deck when the blue hit, it hit the short left first, then hooked on the long left I believe. I think it hit a pakula or a kona head with purple/red skirt. Lure got knocked down5 minutes after we started trolling again. Hot lure!

The blue was released alive and well last seen headed due south.
Tons of pictures were taken, Im sure they will start surfacing soon. My buddy had his digital camera, but he wont be able to get me the pictures for about another week...

Definetely a memorable trip!

Carlos,
Those were some of the LARGEST average AJ's I've seen.
MrBill,
I haven't seen Chuck in a while and the treatment has taken a bunch out of him. He's a darn good fisherman!
