Hey jig! I would think that the spool will be full of spectra (spectra doesn't absorb water) and that would keep most, if not all, saltwater from entering the wiffles? |

Not sure, but I think some would get in. But this actually got me to thinking. With Avet now apparently RECOMMENDING that you fully immerse their reels in fresh water and crank them a bit to flush out the salt, maybe this isn't such a bad idea. What if someone 'wiffled' the entire reel? I mean side plates, spool, frame, everything? Install open bearings, and greased drag. Then put a quick take-off side plate like the new Cabo. This would make it much lighter, and I don't think it would affect the strength too much. Then, you immerse the reel in fresh water and crank, then shake all the water out and let it dry. Then use the quick take-off to take the side plate off, shoot some Corrosion X on the bearings, reassemble and your done. That would be cool. Now if we only knew anyone who had a tackle company.... |

Are all the steel parts stainless? Where ever stainless is clamped to another part and can't get O2 then corrosion starts. Steel against aluminum makes a fairly active galvanic cell, corrosion can be quick. Grease might help. One would have to disassemble coat with corrosion X and reassemble. I wonder what the drag components and assembly looks like.
