well i am one of the old farts and i am 61. i am usually one of the few fishermen that fishes the whole time on what use to be the big e long range trips. it doesn't take me hours to bring my big fish to the boat. 400 lb marlins in around 30 minutes and the same for tuna's over 150lb. most young people that i thought were strong ended up handing their fish off after 15 to 20 minutes into the fight. fighting big fish is more about determination and desire to kick its butt than raw strength.
john greschuk aka grescobia is the same way. he is almost 70 and doesn't hand his fish off and can fish for long periods of time. he got his marlin on this trip to the boat in about 30 minutes. we both fight our fish on standup gear and leave the chair for you young pussy's....lol kilsong is also an old fart but he is not as agressive as some of us other old farts. what he lacks in speed in getting his fish to the boat he more than makes up with his determination and ability to fish 5 out of every 7 days. the true old farts club starts at 60. so you 40 and 50 something will have to wait your turn to enter our elite status.....rick

Thanks Rick....I wasn't quite ready to become an old fart.
I'm not a young fart either. Damn....I guess I'm a middle-aged fart. We might need Uncle Russ's, (is that how you punctuate his possessive state?), input on this one. Can't wait to hear his fart classifications. If Puerto Vallarta 2009 happens....we might need three classifications of fishermen. Last edited by STx Fisherman : 10-08-2008 at 10:25 PM. |

I can attest to this. Gres is one of the strongest, baddest fisherman I have ever fished with since I have been around. Rick has stamina as well. He can stay up all night, sleep three minutes when he gets back to the dock and drive home to Oklahoma. That being said, I am not one for chairs despite being a young fart.

im with rick, if you cant get a good fish to the boat in under 30 minutes you need to go back to school..... I will likely request that the chair be removed from whatever boat I fish next year be it top gun or magnifico. it just gets in the way.....

Hey guys! Great trip and reports. I would have loved to have been there. I've fished with most of you, you are all great fisherman.
Gres though....he's the only man I've ever watched catch yellowfin on an ambassador reel once much less over and over and over and over again...he is definitely fun to watch. I'd be dead if I was Rick...I can't handle being up and fishing as much as he does then driving the distance he does afterwards... Earl |
