The Gulf Eagle came in first, and they had about three fish that were in the 90's, close to 100.
The Pelican came in, and didn't want to wait on pictures, so they laid them out, gave them out, and then went to clean fish. Both boats were asked to leave Boudreaux! But I'll let those guys tell their stories, and they have some good ones! It was good to see everyone, TJ, Rue, Wayne, Jason and Amy, NTF, JP, Charlie, SKR and all the others. Tom - DBG |

I dont understand why Noble Clyde asked them to leave.....arent they fishing at night? And excuse my ignorance but isnt the only reason for that is if a crew boat is coming in? They wouldnt start loading unloading off of a crew boat at night would they?

Yes. It happened about 5 AM when we were there. One crew/supply boat was sitting there all night as usual when another gave up to Boudreaux. They lifted them up with a basket from the crane on the rig. Some of those crew boat Capt's are real arse's. I've them them yell at me for years. I can understand if they are using the boat to do their job loading and unloading to ask you stay off a few hundred yards. I wouldn't want anyone in my way if I was working. Sometimes they like to show their power by yelling at you over the VHF even though they are just tied off in a distance obviously just waiting for a shift change or red alert. |

Boudreaux warned both boats to maintain a one mile distance from the rig, which is legal according to the Gestopo security act. The limilt is at the descression of the rigs operator, some of which are fecal brained and others are decent people. There was a work boat there that told us it was holding fisn and that we could fish it.

I forgot my camera and didn't do worth a hill of beans. One small YF and about 6 million tiny BF.
We hit both Clyde and Diana, trolled, jigged, chunked, popped, sacraficed two virgins and caught a few fish, I want to say 30 YF and a couple hundred BF in the cooler. The OTI poppers worked very well. Most of the YF were picked off by trolling poppers. The trip was fun, the captians worked hard as did crews and fishermen, the fish just had lock jaw compared to previous trips.

I went to the docks and saw lots of nice tuna. It sounds like that the fish were very picky and were hard to come by...but it looks like you guys did pretty well.
I met Wacker and he showed me some canned tuna that he brought on the trip and explained how he cans the tuna....very cool! I even got to sample some of the canned tuna and it is great! He said that the canning of blackfin works as well as yellowfin...and tastes as good. I am looking into a pressure cooker so that I can can some tuna. (??? can can works in a sentence?). Anyway....thanks Wacker....nice tip.....and nice trip! Last edited by STx Fisherman : 02-03-2008 at 04:14 PM. |
