I don't get it Bill...It's a friggin 50, so it's drags are rated for 50 out of the box. Spectra would be 100 or 150lb. Top shot wold be 50 to 80lb. Rods would obviously be a 50 to 80lb class of your choosing. Sounds like a decent deal. I just got two mx series avets from them and they did a good job with the power pro and they were here in Puerto rico in a timely manner. Maybe I missed your meaning dude.

I saw that yesterday. I'm thinking about it as they guarantee the serial number less than 100. That makes a big difference to some of us who collect things. I wouldn't think about using it. Use your Capitan's Card and knock off another 74 bucks. $665 isn't bad for a collector reel.

Down the road it might make you some money unused. I'd have to say about 20 years from now you might get about $1300 for it. That's not a very good return but if you have a place to display it and you get a rise each time you walk by it, then go for it. Think of it as a piece of art. I feel sorry for the people that paid a grand plus sales tax and got a high serial number.

Charkbait hasn't been sitting on these reels. That guy likes to turn his inventory. Penn made him a deal because they know he will by a lot and he probably has a good record of paying them on time. Penn must have been saving the lower serial numbers for upper level managers as bonuses or retirement. Pressure from up top said "Sell Em".

When I first saw it come out about a year ago, I didn't think they would sell for a grand. I guess my intuition was correct. $665 makes it a lot more attractive with the lower serial number. If you really like the Penn 50's then just buy a normal one and use it. It will be cheaper.

wouldn't use it??!........ maybe i didn't make such a good deal after-all

dumb idea huh....... i had planned on making my next purchase the 50VSX cuz i don't even like the 50VSW because the 2-speed feature has the handle set so far out to one side (and it's limited drag) but other than being heavy and bulky don'tcha reckon i could make do with it for chunking or sword fishing?....... i was thinking maybe it'd at least look good on a short-handle bent-butt in black and gold

i figgerred 150-200# backing w/topshhot would make up for lack of drag since i'd probably be using it mostly on private boats and only ocassionally on headboats

anyway, i thot it'd be kinda cool to make it part o'my travel set o'rigs and i can always hang that print on the wall for sumpin to look at

the 'shock factor' alone has gotta be worth something!....... can'tcha just see it out there on a headboat and everybody say, "Hey!... Look at that idiot fishing with an anniversary Penn!!!".......... (priceless!)

well,.......... i got #53....... (came in today)

it's okay (tho i'm not terribly impressed)...... the box and coin are a wa$te imo but the reel ACTUALLY DOES looks okay

but what I REALLY LIKE is the print.... (worth the xtra coin imo)

but alas,.... a reel's a reel........ i figger i'll spool it with either momoi diamond 60# or that pretty blue Diamond braid in 200# test and top shot it with flouro for chunking or swording

i don't figger i'll use it til next fall or winter anyway (but it might accidently see some action this summer)

i'd still like to permanently dedicate it to a nice rod tho........
