How far out to find good water?

Hoping to get into some action this week.

heres a thermal I ganked from another site. but the report is that big dorado and sails are on this rip about 16 miles from the poc jetties ..

That satellite image is about a day or 2 old. That nice rip has since started to change a bit, and is now closer to POC in some places.

Its held up pretty well for the last 2-3 days, so it should be holding plenty of good fish right now.

is that thermal?? It looks similar to an aireal photograph.
