MrBill,
This is not advice, but the information you asked.
I met Crazy Al at a fishing show in NY today and he gave me the information where he fished in Costa Rica last month.
He fished out of Agua Dulce Resort in Osa Peninsula, Puerto Jimenez.
In addition to superb offshore fishing very close to the resort, Al said he had excellent jigging as well as popping. He said the area is virgin territory for jigging and he had fish on every drop as nobody use jigs there. I am told there is excellent rooster fishing from the surf too.
The Resort is only 50 miles away from Mariott Los Suenos where I plan to stay with my family during Christmas Holidays, but the roads are barely passable. I am thinking about driving back to San Jose from Los Suenos to fly to the Agua Dulce Resort to fish one or two days if I can not find better places to fish in Costa Rica.

Here is their website.

Welcome to Agua Dulcé Lodge & Resort !

Thank you Kil,
This is really funny as I am now reading Fodor's 2008 book on Coast Rica as my goal is to select where to go in Coast Rica as my wife is on my case about it. I am supposed to pick a date and where to go this weekend.

You will love Los Suenos. It is very nice. It's not cheap, but what vacation isn't expensive. My wife has a first cousin that has a eco adventure and fishing camp in Panama. While we are in the neighborhood, she wants to spend a couple of days at his new place. He and his buddy built every thing by themselves. It took them four years. I'm not to hot on going there as I like to fish, not swing on ropes from tree to tree like Tarzan. Tranquilo Bay eco adventure lodge : Bocas del Toro Panama Hotel : Home

Do you happen to know which outfitter or boat he used? I just finished booking my trip. I don't want to go during the rain season, so I am leaving Christmas Day afternoon and will spend my last night in San Jose for New's Year Eve. I will spend first two nights at Los Suenos and then fly to Puerto Jimenez where I will book fishing trips. I probably won't fish from Los Suenos as I have caught many many billfish from trolling boats in my life. My wife also doesn't want me to fish every day. So to make her happy, I will rent a 4WD vehicle in San Jose and cruise Costa Rica while at Los Suenos.

I have been told that I am more of a westerner than those on the west coast. I guess that is a major chain jerker !!! I think that fish will be about the same, but the language that I use is probably what she meant.
