Early TBB 06 report

Minnow called as they were docking and gave me a quick report. Here are the highlights:
* 120+ YFT -- about a 50# average and largest about 100#, 90% from poppers
* Pending record black grouper

Sounds like a great trip. Was just looking at the early pics on 2cool. Mrbill, you might want to give your trip a second thought. Every gaff is almost dead center in the middle of the body. I know you, and that would really drive you nuts. Looks like a great boat. Like those huge live bait tanks. If those deckhands ever took "gaffing 101" I might join you.

Yeah, the gaffing technique is lacking but they are getting better. (so I hear) They beat our YFt count from the Halloween trip last year. Looking forward to hearing all of the details.

trip was great

123 YFT avg 50lbs
35+ assorted grouper

New boat record

most YFT were taken on top water poppers

Deep water rigs off the coast of Louisana

At times there were 5 - 50+ YFT hooked up at the same time in the back of the boat.

and cast were still being made

Highlights were the Black grouper 116lbs, missed the state record by 4 lbs

2 - 100lbs tuna

Busting tuna on flying fish and our lures

Excellent trip, TJ.
How far do you have to cast your poppers to get bites ?

Kill,

We have to cast to the edge of the light, I would say about +- 60 yards.
I can't cast that far with my conventional setup, luckily Rick loan me a spinner.

Hmmm.... I got to make a decision whether I bring a spinning reel setup or not. If I use 50 - 60 lbs line, I could cast 60-70 yard on conventional reel, but I don't like to use light lines on a party boat.

I just posted on Allcoast a picture of your wife fighting a tuna on Saltiga spinning reel .
