Biscayne Bay bone.
Offshore today was bad, 3-5' with small crafts advisory and getting worse latter during the day. I don't do much inshore, but a friend with a kayak turn me on to our local flats last time and it was very fun so we headed out again since the offshore was bad. The condition wasn't ideal but we manage to sneak up to some nine schools of bones and went 1 for 3. This is my first really nice bone (8.5lbs), but he said it was average
. This guy was pulling drag and ran about 75 yards and was pulling the kayak at one point . |

Awesome bone! there's places where that would be a trophy. Like in
my living room! great fish! Not to thread -jack, but I read they're catching/releasing bonefish in the flats around San Diego Bay, Ca. No BS! Definately high on my to-catch list. -B |

We didn't measure him so I am not too sure how long he was. We had Shimano stradic and sustain in 2500 to 5000. I caught this one on a heavier set up, the 4000 stradic with a St. Croix 8' rod. From what I heard, the Biscayne bonefish runs quite large. They runs larger than most places in the world but there are fewer of them and are quite hard to get close to. Catching one on fly here is an accomplishment. Futher down in the keys, I heard there is some world class bone fishing. |

That isn't BS. They apparently got in there when visiting ships dumped their bilges and the larvae from foriegn ports were released in the bay. They hang around the power plant discharge in the back of the bay and you can walk in to catch them.
