Snapper drop rigs

I have so far experimented with 2 knots this morning(the standby dropper loop) and another one that I use on crappie fishing. the crappie loop sux big time, and the dropper loop is only a little bit better(maybe 12# of pressure breaks 60# mono).... I think The only way I am going to get a good solid drop setup for snapper is to use 3 way swivels. I am making a few droppers for livebait, with 2 hooks per rig... and then 2 rigs, with 3 hooks each for deadbait. I "think" we stop on the way out for snapper?? then continue on to the rig for the sunset bites??? I figure the AVET 50 SDS meat hauler can put some quick snaps in the boat(put her in LOW gear, wait for the second pull and crank em up)- so we can get to some REAL fishing....

Hopefully TFF will be back up soon, so we will all know whats going on with Cinco Tuna...

Based on what I learned from last week out, I going w/ a slider(carolina) rig
w/ a good swivel & a 3/o circle hook. unless I can't get it down, then I'll be using a 3-way swivel setup, weight-adjustible. Dropper's tangle in the main line too easy on the drop, unless you use "that knot that's not a knot" Ksong showed us in a previous thread.

for the snapper- I wil be just tryin to get it down and back up with 3 fish on it.. no fight needed.. saving that for the tuna... lol. I just tryed to bend a super mutu 9/0 sized hook (without reading they are "cast" ) LMAO!! the hook point is embedded in the sheetrock wall somewhere in the warehouse... you cant straighten these out from the "gut" hook position they are in.... I only gave it one good whack with the 16 ounce hammer on the anvil.... I felt it graze my arm... damn lucky I aint diggin it out right now.... thats one reason I keep iodine here... LOL!! My own self help clinic... LOL!!!

There is nothing wrong with a double or triple dropper loop for snapper. I dont think you need a lot of drag when fishing snapps. The best thing about them is you dont have to crank up one bait 200 ft at a time. Use em in anything over 180ft.

Liteliner is right, those slider setups catch em to, as does a standand carolina rig

kewl- I just dont think I am capable of tying a dropper worth a shiet! LOL! they keep breaking with not much pressure- have tried several different ways all day today.... lol. Even tested a polamar ona swivel to check that knot- it was excellent and now I know I have to put a new wind-on on my Ti-16.. lol. old line.

I use the standard dropper loops. I've never had any problems with them through all the snapper and grouper i've caught with them. I really think presenting multiple baits is a better strategy when fishing snapper, I noticed my catch rate was much higher (for the most part) than those fishing carolina rigs.

Did you try that Plait knot? I have been practicing it at home but it is hard for me to tie with a big loop.

For the standard dropper loop, make sure you wet the line really well with spit before you tighten it. The knot has a lot of loops around the standing line and if you tighten it quickly without spit, the heat is pretty significant. I think this is a big cause of weak knots in mono.

yeah, but then you got to tie a loop in the dropper line first. So the knot that's not a knot is actually two knots. NOT! :-)

I'm just gonna keep practicing that Plait. I can only tie the orig dropper well if I use both hands and my mouth.
