MrBill, Where did you get it for $530? The best price I've been able to find is $100 higher. Dick |

MrBill, those custom handles are cracking me up. But, I had same problem, and accurate actually gave me mine with they old style 'tube' handle. I don't know who they made those new knobs for; my hands are not big and I didn't like them either.
Do the 30 and 50 have the short throw conversion option the regular bosses have? I like this for jigging. I fish my 665w with 60 mono, strike drag around 25#, max at around 30#. So for me, the 30 would be fished at basically the same. I have had no problems (knock on wood) at these levels with the 665w. So even picking today, I think for 60# I would still stick with the 665w as it is lighter. The additional weight caused by the beefed up qualities is a drawback to me. BUT, I am still in a little bit of the 'too good to be true' mindset with the light weight of the 665W. Only time will tell. It is exactly what I wanted for years, a very light 2spd reel to fish 60# line at up to 30# max drag. At first failure though, I will go full tilt toward the beefier build of the 30. Can't wait to hear more about the 50. It may be my perfect 80# reel. |

Uncle Russ,
I've heard a lot of clickers in my time. The one on this B2-30 is the loudest on the market. When I was spooling line on it last night I turned on the clicker. I almost went looking for ear protection. My wife was three rooms away and thought the alarm system had gone off. I took about 15 seconds of the ear torture before turning it off. I'm still trying to decide which rod to use for this reel. I put it on a Zenaq B60H "Monster Buster" temporally. |

MrBill: One of the few advantages of old age is becoming hard-of-hearing. Since I chunk with the rig in the rod holder, I have pissed off a couple of folks by leaving the clicker on--but I can't seem to prevent overruns without doing so. I know, I know, everybody is going to kick my ass for not holding the rod under my arm. Another advantage of old age is that you don't give a rats ass what people tell you for your own good.
That thread of yours showing the MBFIM is one of my favorites. I keep thinking I have to have one for the ATD 12--as similar sized reel--but I'm not sure I want anything that stiff and six feet long--unless I am using it to scare women! You have probably seen those videos of scientists shooting 2 X 4 s at tornado shelters at a couple of hundred miles an hour and turning the boards into splinters. I picture the iron man rod being shot out and blowing a hole right through the steel.Russ

No. I don't care about weight. I think it's light. Here is a graph with the B2-30 set at 25#/strike. This is what I think the reel was designed to be fished. It will take a bunch more. It had complete free spool at this setting. Putting it in gear with the setting it started off at 5 pounds. 31# at full. Cranking had no notable binding at this setting. |

They are both very similar in size capacity. The ATD is a different design and therefore should be a little more in weight. If I had to pick one, I'd take the ATD 12. For those who are budget minded, the B2-30 is about 500 bucks less. Here's another graph with the preset strike set at 30#'s. Once again, free spool at full. Lowest amount of drag was 8 lbs putting into gear. A little over 40#s at full. |
