I got a YFT Hook up on a 9" Swimbait (9" Sassy Shad 6oz Jig head) but it got off when I tried to stick the rod tip down to get the line clear of the pulpit.. got some slack and it shook the hook.
I also got a few YFT hook ups dropping a 14oz Jig right at the rig but the hooks pulled free.. must have hooked soft spots outside the head??
I threw some big Poppers Tuna Hunters and My own 4oz customs but only got one short strike blow up. It was a lot of work with the strong winds.
Anyhow like eveyone says we had some very strong winds and a faster than normal drift rate... we had to let out 700ft of line to get down 200ft to the Tuna. None of us had never skied a 12-14oz jig on top the water for 200 ft until this trip.
If you do have high winds and a fast drift rate like we did I'd use a Deep Diving trolling plug like a Manns Stretch 30. I had one and could kick myself for not using it. That would have been just too simple to let the fast moving boat pull my bait down deep for me.. LoL!
Good Luck and Catch A Bigg'un Yall!
