Thanks for your repsonse. Im mostly jigging in the northeast where there are no rigs just open water, and at 20-25lbs of drag I feel I can fight most fish succesfully, but I understand your point. I also plan to try using it for other multi-purpose trips.
You may now ask if you only wanted a reel with 20-25lbs of drag why buy the 665 instead of the 870? I did this becuase of the extra line capacity the 665 offers. If I was using this down in the gulf near rigs as i sometimes do I would definately use a heavier rated rod like the 600. I did the test with 20lbs of pressure and the line wasn't touching anywhere on the rod.
I plan on testting it out up here as I am still ooking for the right rod. I am looking forward to having a custom popping and jigging rod made soon
