the reel is actually fine out of the box. only the most extreme fishermen need the higher drag ranges. i grease the drags to prevent corrosion between the carbon fiber drag washer and the aluminum backing plate. the bearings are the main concern. regardless of how you fish this reel, definitely get the bigger handle grip.
