No running start, just shear exhaustion. The rail on the big e is high enough to prevent falling overboard, except at the stearn corners. There it dips down to about waist high. We were on the last hours of a 48 hour trip, and had been tossing big topwaters for at least 6-8 hours, maybe more. Plus, we had already caught a bunch of fish. We were all tired as hell, and just a few gung ho folks hung in there until the end. He just really leaned into the cast to put his weight behind it and then kept on leaning.
It was not funny at all when it happened, then it became funny as hell, and then again, once you started thinking about what could have happened, it was scary again. Seas were calm, daybreak was near, we were close to the rigs lights, and it was warm in October. If it had been November, cold, rough seas, darker, and away from the lights, it could have been really bad.
Mr. Bill, is that the family treasure you bought on ebay? A jewel protector?
