The item was bought by my great great grandfather and given to his son for Christmas in 1876. The item was lost in a poker game around 1918 along with two acres of land behind the Alamo by my grandfather. Needless to say, he had a problem with gambling, drinking and women. My father evidently went through hell with his father. I didn't meet my grandfather until I was 18 even though we lived in the same town.
My father tried many many times to trace this item but always ran into dead ends trying to find it. After my father passed away, I put it on myself to keep searching. When the internet came along, I posted on hundred's of boards looking for it. Nothing. When ebay came along, I entered seven different searches including description. I have weeded out thousands and thousands of ebay items which ebay automatically send me. None of them were the exact item.
Last week I was in shock when it showed up. I even paid the seller seventy five dollars to have better detailed pictures for me prior to the end of the auction. I even paid a hand writing specialist last week to verify that the font and script matched another similar item. What screwed me on the price was three other bidders who collect this particular item. They didn't give a hoot about the script, but wanted it because it was such a spectacular piece.
