bigfishjaeck is on a distinguished road
Hello to all.... Its a pleasure to be have found this forum...as well as this topic. This is my first post (hope I get a nice welcome after I give my opinion)... I have fished since I was a kid around the shores of Puerto Rico. and find myself turning 36 soon. I've fished hard over the years and have used the old penns and Fin-Nors all my life. I've been deep jigging for about 3 years now and used my 9500 penns with plenty of success after they had caught multiple blue marlin and tuna that showed up in my white marlin spread (before turning into a jigging freak due to petrol costs). Those reels performed very well. I also used Penn internationals (all sizes for marlin)and the smaller 550ss series (cast body) for sailfish. They did great. As for Fin-Nor, my dad has an old (70's) fin-nor spinning reel which he live baited yellow fin with... an excelent reel as well.

However, I recently purchased a Penn 950SSM that lasted 3 outings (internal handle problem-porous brass). I have a friend that also had problems with his new Offshore FinNor as well (teeth break in main gear)... These reels that were once made in the US at a higher cost, suddenly became very affordable and made in China. For this reason, I still have my " old faithful" 9500ss fishing as my back ups... They serve as back-ups after I purchased a 20k Stella last year. I think you get what you pay for. It is an awesome reel.. I dare to say it is the best reel I've ever owned.
