Re: Boat rods/ rod rental for the CJ - they don't rent thier boat rods - you just get them from the deckies... Most are Penn4/0's or Newel equivlents, spooled with 50lb andy, the rod is a FG broomstick... If you have a rod issue, just call a deckie, they will get you a new rod, no problem.
Last fall, on my overnighter, the guy that caught the most BF on the back of the boat was using boat gear and a 6oz diamond jig... I think he caught something like 12 BFT, not riping, but deep, slow jigging...
I had an Avet lx w/OTI 300g rod, 65lb spectra, fancy jigs, I got 4 - nice for me, but the old guy with boat gear out-fished me 4-1... LOL
BTW, I got mine, one on a Bethos 5oz, one on 6oz diamond, one on OTI 300g Jager, and one on a carolina-rigged cigar minnow... LOL I couln't catch two fish on one rig, but every time I changed gear, I caught another fish...
