Day Two
Day two.. Jared,Kevin and I headed to the lump at 0600 with Capt Darryl Couvillon. I must say he was a great guy to fish with.. We arrived at the lump with about 16 other boats, anchored up and started chumming. We started picking up bonita pretty quick. It was slow.. but Jared and I kept it up. Kevin had the mal de mer and was contributing to the slick on occasion.
I picked up a couple of decent blackfins and then nada.. We had one bonita on the kite.. and a beeliner and a squirrel snapper.. We stuck it out until about 12:30 when we made the call to head over to some other rigs and see what was up over there. Jared wanted to try for an aj. so Capt Darryl pulled out his AJ rig.. a 9/0senator w 300lb mono/capefearbentbutt combo.. and dropped down a big mullet.. Whammo!! In a matter of 4 secs he got spooled.. Capt said he hadnt ever seen that happen. We pull out the jigs and get to work on the blackfin and I caught 3 small ajs... I think we hammmered out 10 blkfins and then headed in to clean fish and watch the superbowl.
I want to give a special thanks to Captain DarrylCouvillon for his Hospitality! He invited us over to his fish camp to watch the game and have some dinner before headed back to DFW. We cooked up some of my venison sausage and the cajun boys cooked up a mess of tuna and wahoo on the grill and we had us an awesome dinner and watched the game.. Thanks again.
I was a little dissappointed that we didnt score on the Yfts.. but its always a gamble to fish the lump. You just have to put your time in.. There were some tuna caught on sunday.. but most of the bites didnt happen until late in the afternoon, after most of the boats had allready bailed. Here are some more pics.. That Venice area has some of the most beautiful scenery around..
