Woodland, WA: A noted author in both European and American publication and the purveyor of the website Caranx.net, Nicola Zingarelli carries an intense passion for the world’s toughest tropical game fish: giant trevally, cubera snapper, tuna, dogtooth tuna, amberjack and more. Trained by the most famous Japanese anglers in deep jigging technique, Nicola has since introduced this fishing style, along with tropical popping, to fishing outfitters and anglers throughout the world. Lamiglas, through a collaborative effort with Zingarelli, introduces the Tropic Pro Jigging and Popping Series, containing the core elements of a fishing strategy that will take fish in all the world’s oceans.

The new line of Tropic Pro Jigging Rods consists of the models TP 5630 CJ, TP 5650 CJ, TP 5630 SJ and TP 5650 SJ, offering two powers in either casting or spinning models. Both the 30- and 50- pound models are designed for underarm, short jerk jigging. Their 5’6” length delivers the necessary speed to the presentation, while also providing the lifting power to tame tenacious predators.

The TP 5630 CJ and TP 5630 SJ are designed for 30- to 50-pound braided lines and a drag setting of 10- to 12-pounds. In either cast or spin, they’re perfectly suited for amberjack, stripers, wahoo, school tuna and snappers.

The TP 5650 CJ and TP 5650 SJ are designed for 65- to 80-pound braided lines. A soft tip is backed by massive power. With drag settings of up to 24-pounds, the rods have the power to alter the course of a battle when the need arises. These are the rods for trophy amberjack, large tuna, dogtooth tuna, big grouper and other sizeable predators.

Deciding between a casting or spinning model requires a true assessment of the rod’s use. As a pure jigging rod, a spinning reel is required. Casting reels are unable to match the necessary speed to perfect the presentation. Casting models offer greater versatility for the angler, however, making excellent trolling and live bait rods in addition to jigging duty.

Lamiglas’ lineup of Tropic Pro Popping Rods includes the travel-friendly TP 7030 SP and the heavy duty TP 8650 SP. Both models are configured for spinning reels.

The unassuming nature of the TP 7030 SP’s small diameter 7-foot blank, cork handle and lightweight feel may conjure visions of small inshore species, but do not make that mistake. This is an alarmingly powerful rod. Its fast action is designed for popping tuna to 60-pounds, sailfish, snappers, jack crevalle and large striped bass. Built in two pieces for easy travel, the TP 7030 SP will confidently handle up to 10-pounds of drag.

There’s nothing modest about the TP 8650 SP. At a full 8’6” in length and rated for up to 22-pounds of drag, this rod delivers the longest casts and a ton of fighting power. Constructed to pursue giant trevally and the largest cubera snapper, the TP 8650 SP has a 170-pound Yellowfin Tuna already under its belt…taken on a popper.
